Starting the Day with Gratitude

๐ŸŒ… Morning Devotion: "Starting the Day with Gratitude"

Scripture: "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."Psalm 118:24 (NIV)

Reflection: Every morning is a gift—a fresh start filled with God's mercy and new opportunities. Yet, how often do we wake up already thinking about our worries, to-do lists, or frustrations? Starting the day with gratitude shifts our focus from what we lack to what we have been given. Gratitude is not about ignoring challenges; it is about recognizing God's faithfulness even in the midst of them. When we begin our day by thanking God, we invite His peace to set the tone for everything that follows.

Application: Before you get out of bed this morning, take three deep breaths and thank God for three specific things:

  1. Something you often take for granted (e.g., the breath in your lungs, a warm bed, running water)

  2. Someone in your life who has blessed you (e.g., a family member, friend, or coworker)

  3. One way God has been faithful to you recently

Write these down or simply speak them aloud. Let gratitude be the first words on your lips today.

Prayer: Good morning, Lord. Thank You for this new day—a day I did not earn and do not deserve, but one You have graciously given me. I thank You for Your faithfulness that never ends and Your mercies that are new every morning. Help me to see Your goodness in the small moments today. When challenges arise, remind me to pause and give thanks. May my heart be filled with gratitude, and may it overflow into kindness toward everyone I meet. In Jesus' name, Amen.

๐ŸŒŸ A Gratitude Challenge for Today: Throughout your day, whenever you feel stressed or frustrated, pause and say, "Thank You, Lord, for..." and name one thing you're grateful for in that moment. See how it changes your perspective!
